A youth documentary filmmaking program.
Produced by HER inspires youth ages 12–17 to share the stories of women through documentary filmmaking. Important stories of women are underrepresented in history books, media and film. Produced by HER is changing that by creating an environment where the stories that girls want to tell are prioritized, and by providing the opportunity for mentorship from professional women in media.
Under the creative direction of Kerri Lynne Thorp and in partnership with NW Documentary, Girls Inc. PNW youth work in teams to produce original, women-focused documentaries. They develop the story, then produce, shoot and edit their work. We address the lack of representation of women in mainstream media by prioritizing the stories of BIPOC and LGBTQIA youth.
